Aspen has really failed with the vision of providing a continuous paved multi-purpose path from Glenwood Springs to Aspen. Counties, municipalities and RFTA have contrbuted hundreds of thousands of dollars to make this vision a reality but the effort has been stymied because there is a vocal minority that wants to maintain the "wilderness character" of the corridor. With power lines and screaming airplanes this is the last place one should seek a rural experience. This is a recreational corridor, once a locomotive train route. The section between Jaffee and Stein Park should be paved with a soft surface trail alongside where width permits. Guard rails should not be utilized as this opens a can of worms to put them everywhere along the corridor where the down slope presents any kind of legal hazard.

There are numerous cycling user groups that will benefit from a paving of the Rio Grande between Jaffe Park and Stein Park.
~ Families and children trying to get down valley from Aspen to Woody Creek and beyond without having to drag the children up and over McLain Flats or riding along a soft dirt path which is much more committing from an energy standpoint.
~ Road cyclists returning from long rides from down valley hoping not to have to climb over McLain Flats. The route along the Rio Grande is easier if it was paved and more scenic along the river.
~ Commuter cyclists who have to climb or descend W/J hill are encumbered by commute traffic in the morning and afternoon commute hours. Descending around the quarry intersection is often an extremely hazardous curve with gravel lain strewn in the apex of the turn from the dump trucks on a regular basis. I know three people who have crashed bad in that corner. It would be a much more pleasant experience to ride smoothly down a paved bike path to Woody Creek and beyond.

Regrade and resurface the portion of trail/road from Stein Bridge to the Rio Grande. It is currently unmanageable and dangerous from an intermediate cyclist or nordic skier standpoint
