Pitkin County last year commissioned a study to look at the impacts associated with special events on county facilities, residents and visitors. It focused on the Rio Grande Trail and Maroon Creek Road.
Surveys were done to help gauge the current level of use and carrying capacity of the Rio Grande Trail and to evaluate the effect of special events, races, etc. that occur on the trail. A report on the results of the study was presented March 18, 2014 during a joint meeting of the Open Space and Trails Board and Board of County Commissioners.
