The 2013 Roaring Fork Gorge Management Plan calls for improvements to Jaffee Park, a popular spot for whitewater rafters and anglers, among other users. The park, a Pitkin County Open Space and Trails property near Woody Creek, offers Roaring Fork River access and a boat ramp.
The Gorge plan contemplates a redesign of the Jaffee Park parking area, including the addition of designated trailer parking. The goal is relocating the parking away from the riparian river's edge and restoration of the riparian area. The staging area near the boat ramp would remain. Construction would occur in 2017 at the earliest.
Consideration of use of the river trail out of Jaffee Park, including whether it should be leash area or voice command area for dogs, will be addressed in a future conservation plan. It won't be addressed as part of this initiative.
Three options for the envisioned redesign are depicted below. Public comment on the options was accepted through September. Submitted comments are also posted below.
