MANAGEMENT PLAN UPDATE SET FOR 2023
It has been 15 years since the 2008 management plan for Filoha Meadows Nature Preserve was adopted. Work on updating the Filoha plan will begin in the second half of 2023, with the goal of adopting a new management plan for the property in December 2023. An online survey to collect initial public input will be open April 15 through May 15. A link will be provided here when the survey opens. The Filoha plan is one of two management planning efforts in the Crystal River Valley to be undertaken by Pitkin County Open Space and Trails in 2023. The other, the Redstone Parks and Open Space Management Plan, will be drafted in August. A draft of the Filoha plan will follow in September (see schedule at right). Keep tabs on the Redstone Parks and Open Space planning effort here. The updated Filoha plan will encompass not only Filoha Meadows, but also the Grange Loadout parcel on the opposite side of the Crystal River and the Wilden property to the south of Filoha, acquired by Open Space and Trails in 2019. Penny Hot Springs, which was part of the 2008 Filoha Management Plan, now has its own, separate management plan (adopted in 2020) and will not be part of the updated Filoha plan. The 2008 management plan for Filoha and information regarding various ecological studies conducted at Filoha Meadows Nature Preserve can be found here.
